Ten years ago, Max Mara and the Renzo Piano Building Workshop redefined the relationship between architecture and fashion. The result was the Whitney Bag—a sculptural, ribbed leather design echoing the façade of the Whitney Museum of American Art. A decade later, the story continues not with reinvention, but with a confident evolution.
To mark this anniversary, Max Mara releases a limited edition of just 125 pieces, returning to the original aluminium-toned model introduced in 2015, now lined in vibrant red nappa leather. Thirteen new colors and six formats—including a five-ribbed edition—expand the family, showing that what was once a tribute has become a design legacy. With dedicated window displays unveiled from Milan to Seoul, and a finale set for New York’s Whitney Gala, the celebration reflects the international stature the bag has come to hold.

More than an accessory, the Whitney Bag is now a collector’s object with a presence in museum collections and a place in the wardrobes of those drawn to quiet power.
